Standard Education · Remote-first · Contract, ~30 hrs/month
We build software for school districts — behavior screeners, data analytics, and funding tools. It's called Standard Education and it is extremely rad. Almost nobody knows what it does.
That's the job. We ship features and improvements constantly and then do a fairly bad job of telling anyone about them. We need someone to fix that: write the blog post, cut the 90-second demo video, post the thing on LinkedIn, email the customers who've been asking for exactly this feature for six months and don't know it shipped last Tuesday.
This is a content job first. Distribution matters, but it's mostly social (LinkedIn, some Facebook, YouTube) and our own website — not events, not webinars, not running email campaigns. If you can write it, shoot it, and post it, that's 90% of the role.
This is ~30 hours a month. It's a real part-time gig, not a fake one that quietly becomes full-time.
What "done" looks like most months:
That's the baseline, not a ceiling — if you've got a weird idea that isn't on this list, pitch it.
You're a content person first. You write clearly about technical things for a non-technical audience — school administrators are smart and busy and have no patience for marketing fluff. You can edit video well enough to be dangerous: trim, caption, add a title card, export. We're not asking for color grading.
You're AI-passionate, not AI-expert. You don't need to show up already building agents or wiring automations — we'll teach you that part and give you the tools to do it. What we want is someone curious enough to actually use AI tools in how they work, and who wants to get better at it. If you're already deep into that world, great. If you're not there yet but want to be, also great.
You work outside the box. This is the part we care about most and the part that's hardest to screen for. We'd rather you try something weird that flops than run the same LinkedIn playbook everyone else runs. Take chances. We'll back you up when it doesn't work.
Standard Education is one half of Standard Co. Small team, fully remote, no corporate theater. You'd work closely with the Standard Ed team — Jason, Scott, and Emily — and directly with TJ (founder). Decisions happen fast because there's nobody to ask for permission.
Our customers are school districts. The work matters — the tools help schools spot kids who need support before things get bad.
No resume. Not yet, anyway.
Instead: tell us what we could be doing better when it comes to content. Pick any Standard Education product — SRSS, Analytics, or Focus — poke around at what you can find publicly, and tell us what we could / should be doing better with talking about the product. We're not asking for a polished slide deck, cool video, or some asset that will require tons of work from you. We're not asking for free work here; we just want to know how you'd tell people about us. Bullet points are great by us. But write them yourself please!
You will not have enough information. That's on purpose. What you do with the gaps is the interview.
Send it to tj@standardco.de with the subject line "I make great content!"
